Frank Calistro, 87, of Woodbridge, passed away Aug. 17 in the West Haven Veteran’s Hospital. He was an active member of the VFW Post in Woodbridge, where he played taps during Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies.
Visiting hours will be held for relatives and friends at the Iovanne Funeral Home, at 11 Wooster Place, New Haven, Wednesday, Aug. 21, from 5-7 pm.

He was the beloved husband of Helen Paolella Calistro. Frank was born in New Haven in 1925, son of the late Dominic and Mary Desiderio Calistro, and was a proud US Army veteran serving during WWII.
He was a professional musician, playing his trumpet for numerous well known orchestra leaders, as well as at many veteran’s events and funerals.
He was also an educator and guidance counselor in the East Haven and Fairfield
Public School systems. He is the father of Craig, Dawn, Brett, and Valerie Calistro. Brother of Lillian Lehane and Joseph and Eugene Calistro.
