Vote today: Who's on the ballot in Bethany

A steady stream of voters seemed to file through the Bethany polls this morning.

Here are the candidates for municipal office this year:

For First Selectman

Incumbent First Selectman Derrylyn Gorski, a Democrat, is facing off with Aileen Magda on the Republican ticket.  Voters get to vote for one of the two.

Board of Selectmen

Democrat Steve Thornquist and Republican Don Shea Jr. are running for re-election to the Board of Selectmen. Again, voters get to choose one over the other.

Including the votes for the first selectman, the three highest vote getters will make up the Board of Selectmen.

Town treasurer

Lisa Amadeo is running on the Republican ticket. Larry Eisner is the incumbent treasurer. He is running on the Democrat ticket.

Tax collector

Incumbent David Forman is running unopposed.

Board of Finance

There are three candidates for the Board of Finance for two open seats. Sharon Huxley is the candidate on the Republican ticket. Running for re-election are Democrats Janet Brunwin and Sally Huyser.

Bethany Board of Education

There are three open seats on the 9-member board. Four candidates are on the ballot, and voters can vote for two of the four.

They are, on the Republican ticket, John Paul Garcia and incumbent Brian Laubstein; on the Democratic ticket Doreen Fox and incumbent Vivian Shih.

Amity Board of Education

The Bethany delegation to the regional school board consists of two members. One seat is up for re-election. James Stirling is running unopposed

Board of Assessment Appeals

There are three candidates for two open seats. They are Gary Ross and John Ford IV on the Republican ticket, and Nancy Spangnolo as a Democrat.

Planning and Zoning

There are six candidates for three open seats. Voters get to vote for any three.

• incumbents Mary Shurtleff, Patricia Winer and Melissa Spear on the Democratic ticket and

• Challengers Michael Petter Sullivan, Douglas Goldner and Salvatore Amadeo on the Republican ticket

Zoning Board of Appeals

The five-member board has three open seats. Voters get to choose two candidates for office.

The candidates are

• James Seaton and Lisa Gaw on the Republican ticket

• James Gugliotti and Ruth Beardsley on the Democratic ticket.

Zoning Board of Appeals Alternates

Voters can vote for two of the four candidates for alternates. The candidates are Ryan Shea and Thomas Magda (Republicans)

and Frances Doba and Margaret Foley (Democrats).
